Uninvited but Present: Larry Rubin Attends TX-38 Candidate Forum Despite Exclusion

The candidates' forum for the Texas 38th Congressional District, organized by My God Votes and held on December 18 at Glorious Way Church, brought together seven of the ten registered candidates. Notably absent from the stage was Larry D. Rubin, who is actively campaigning to represent the district and who had formally registered to participate. Despite the availability of space and multiple attempts to secure his inclusion, Mr. Rubin was denied the opportunity to speak.

Our campaign had requested participation in this forum even before Mr. Rubin officially filed his candidacy, and we continued submitting requests afterward. Each effort was met with explanations that shifted over time and did not withstand scrutiny. As a result, constituents were presented with an incomplete picture of their options in a race of significant importance for the district.

Nevertheless, Larry Rubin attended the event in person. He greeted participants, engaged respectfully with attendees, and distributed pamphlets explaining that although he was not invited to join the debate, he chose to be present because he considers it a responsibility to show up for the community. His presence underscored a central principle of his campaign: constituents deserve access to every candidate seeking to represent them, not only those selected by event organizers. We are not making any claims about intent.

We are simply flagging that the exclusion stood out to attendees and has sparked questions about how participation decisions were made.

We consider the exclusion of our candidate to be a disservice to the constituents of Texas's 38th Congressional District. Forums of this nature serve an essential democratic function, and organizers hold an obligation to provide equal opportunity for all registered candidates to present their ideas. When a private entity hosting a public-facing forum chooses to exclude a qualified candidate, it limits the range of perspectives available to voters and undermines the integrity of the electoral process.

Larry Rubin will continue to stand before the community, listen to its concerns, and offer solutions grounded in experience and service. His commitment remains unchanged: ensuring that the people of Texas's 38th Congressional District have access to every voice seeking to represent them.
